I'm wondering if that might also be the case with your Compaq laptops.Hi Mac,A further update on the hardware test.

Hello Mac, catchy name :On the driver CDs that came with the motherboards I purchased for my last two homebuilt PC's (ASUS P4P800 and Gigabyte GA-X38-DS4), there was a specific driver for USB 2.0 that needed to be installed. But, I have to say that there was no rhyme or reason to some of the decisions I saw when I was a QA engineer for Borland and Novell (San Jose) in the 1990s.Thanks, all hints and suggestions are appreciated,-Mac.

So, that is a big market for Microsoft to ignore.Of course, this is early public beta, and I will keep using my XP Pro installations for my regular business, but I would have thought that they would have included drivers from Vista or ? in this build. Also, the US Army uses the Compaq EVO N610c extensively (I saw them at a couple of stations when I was going into Iraq as a civilian contractor).

I tried to install the Diagnostics software on the Win7 machine but it chokes when trying to create the log after installation and therefore returns no data at all. What has the Win7 development team done, locked all of the sub-directories under Windows? A lot of the problems I have encountered in my software testing has been when the installations need to write to the Registry or to a sub-directory in Windows. IntelĀ® 82801DB/DBM USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD Root Hub. I just checked the Compaq (HP) support site and did download the 98 drivers, but they would not install - wrong operating system error - with Win7.I just ran the HP Diagnostics for Windows 4.12A on one of my N620c/XP Pro machines and got.

But, since XP (they do not have drivers on their site for W2K but I don't have it installed to test), there has been built-in support (in Windows) for USB 2.0 for this series (the EVO N610c and N620c, I do not know about the N600 or the N400). For Windows 98, Compaq does have separate drivers supporting 2.0 for the USB ports. I tried the Sony 128 and got the 'not recognized USB device' error. Thanks for the suggestion to check for drivers. I took that out and put Kingston 4GB-1, and then Kingston 4GB-2 in, got the beep that it was installed (each time), but when I tried to open either of them (installed separately) the Windows Explorer went out-to-lunch. I then took it out and put Kingston 512-2 in and got the 'not recognized USB device' error. I inserted (let's call it) Kingston 512-1 and it was immediately recognized and I could read all of the files correctly, all of which I could not do with it yesterday. I'm wondering if that might also be the case with your Compaq laptops.Hey Mac,Which clan are you?I did just now (seeing your message) boot up the Win7 machine (I am not doing this 24/7). Parallel port devices1) Primax Colorado 1200p 36-bit Scanner (bought in 2001 when I did not have a computer that had a USB port) I have NO idea why now.Now then, further add-on hardware testing -First, let me say that most of the time when a device is correctly installed, it does not appear in the Device Manager until I have done a cold reboot. Note: after using the Win7 machine for a week and installing drivers for other devices not initially supported either over my hardwire network or from downloads, the IrCC is suddenly identified.

No big loss with the IrCC adapter since I do not use it (who does?, why do they still build them in laptops?). But, no driver was found for the IrCC adapter which does work on my N620c's/XP. No problems using these drivers yet, matter of fact, Win7 reports a slightly better connect signal (WiFi) than the very same hardware using XP and sitting next to each other. I networked though the Broadcom network adapter (hardwire, obviously) to one of my other N620c's with XP installed, enabled sharing for the Windows directory and was able to load the drivers for the SoundMax 'card' and for the W200 WiFi adapter.
